THE Lions Club of Tavistock welcomed a new president to lead the organisation for the next year.
Alan Wroath, a current governor and former vice-principal of Tavistock College, has taken over as president of the club.
On receiving the chain of office from Carole Gawn, he thanked her for her year as president, during which a considerable amount of money had been raised through a very successful carnival, a fireworks display, the Christmas Trees of Light and the recent beer and cider festival staged during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
He presented her with an engraved Dartington bowl and a bouquet of flowers as tokens of appreciation from the club.
Other officers of the club will include Pat Macauley as vice president, Janet Nowell as secretary, Chris Northey as treasurer, Keith Penney as activities chairman, Paul Congo as community services chairman and health and safety officer, Lyn Roberts as membership chairman, John Noblet as social organiser and Steve Grummitt as press officer.
