THE summer courses at Mount House School have been a great success this year, with groups of enthusiastic children enjoying a range of outdoor adventures under the supervision of professional instructors.
The Moorland adventure day involved climbing a tor, traversing a ridge, exploring and swimming in a leat full of fish, while a bushcraft course showed the children how to light fires to cook their lunch, build a shelter in the woods, and make a rope swing to cross a river.
The climbing course gave them a chance to practise techniques on Leigh Tor and the Dewerstone, and a water-based adventure day offered kayaking, canoeing and rafting on the Mount House lake.
This was followed by a kayaking expedition to Calstock and Lopwell on the Tamar.
Nick Waitz, who organized and supervised the courses, said: 'The children certainly had fun and learned a lot about outdoor activities.
'Their enthusiasm made it an enjoyable experience for the instructors too.'
