MORE than six tonnes of waste and card were cleared in just four hours by a dedicated team of street cleaners after the Goose Fair in Tavistock yesterday (October 8).
The cleaners worked overnight to complete the clean up.
One bystander said the following morning: 'The streets look immaculate, you would never have known the fair had been to town.'
As stall-holders packed up, the West Devon Borough Council contract workers moved in for the big clean-up operation. They collected five tonnes of residual waste and more than a tonne of card for recycling.
Starting at 2am, the 24 staff from FCC Environment worked against the clock to make the streets tidy again by dawn. It took the team just four hours to remove six point one tonnes of waste from the streets, parks and residential gardens in the centre of town. Their efforts left the streets spick and span for residents and businesses returning to normal after the town's busiest day of the year.
