WITH the initial phase of the digital television switchover taking place on August 12, a Digital Switchover Advice Point is being held in Tavistock.

The advice point will take place on August 12 and 13, and again on September 9 and 10, at Tavistock Area Support Services at the Anchorage Centre. It will be open 10am to 4pm.

There will be two stages to the switchover. In stage one, on August 12, the old BBC2 signal will be switched off and replaced with a digital version.

In stage two, on September 9, the old BBC1, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five signals will be switched off and replaced with digital versions.

The advice points will have advisors who will be able to help with problems such as how to retune a digital box and set it up. There will be a demonstration of what to do, and also information on the free Help Scheme and the eligibility criteria for it, including anyone over 75.
