ESSENTIAL advice on making homes safer and more comfortable has been sent out by West Devon Borough Council to more than 2,200 householders in the last week. The information also includes a short survey that householders are encouraged to complete and return by Friday September 8, 2006. One of the council?s main priorities is to improve unsatisfactory housing conditions and it is often those on low incomes whose homes need the most improvement. The council is keenly aware that homes which are in poor repair, or difficult to keep warm, or which contain safety hazards are most likely to affect the health and wellbeing of the people living in them. The survey and information pack will help to give advice and grant assistance to homes which are in the poorest condition and to householders who can least afford to carry out the necessary improvements. Cllr Margaret Garton, chairman of the council?s future planning and housing committee, said she hoped residents would complete and return the survey. Cllr Garton said said:?The results will provide the council with vital information to develop strategies which may help householders in the future. ?We very much hope that the information sent out alongside the survey will prove to be very useful to our residents.?
