IN HIS first official engagements as musical director for Hatherleigh Silver Band, Adrian Edwards has led his team to victory at a contest in Weston-Super-Mare and to a second prize at Bugle's band competition.

Hatherleigh Silver Band beat eight contenders to take the Ald Haskins Trophy at a competition at Weston-Super-Mare's Winter Gardens.

Young band players also fared well at the Solo and Quartet Contest which was held at Bideford with Carl Woodason gaining a fourth prize, Andrew Collier a seventh prize and Hannah Twose an eighth prize out of a class of 18.

Daniel Adams came third in the 16-18-year-old class and with Aaron Diaz was third out of eight in the duet class.

Former musical director Robin Wonnacott has taken over the role of bandmaster which was previously held by Jason Doidge.

The band's appointments during July include Hatherleigh Festival on July 12 and Tavistock Carnival on July 21.
