Exeter University 1
South Zeal Utd 3
KICKING with the wind in the first half University had slightly the better of the play and went ahead after 20 minutes when the Zeal defence failed to deal with a cross that was converted from close range.
Zeal kept playing good football and were level within 15 minutes when after sustained pressure Alan Brimacombe converted from close range after a good move down the right hand side.
Adam Cann was having a great game in goal for Zeal and made several important saves to keep the half-time score at 1-1.
With the wind at their backs Zeal dominated in the second half but could not end the deadlock. A great free kick from Dave Wooldridge produced a tremendous save from the University keeper. The same player crossed and Roger White narrowly headed over the bar. A corner from Garry Smith which reached the head of Reg Wonnacott was cleared off the line.
However with ten minutes left Alan Vile turned his marker on the goal-line and set up a great chance for Brimacombe who made no mistake from 12 yards out.
Roger White put the game beyond the reach of University with a close range effort five minutes from time.
