POPULAR actress Naomi Chance, who lived in Tavistock for many years before moving to France almost a decade ago, has died.
Once a familiar face in the area she married Captain Surgeon Michael Boyle in the late 1970s.
Ms Chance was a leading lady in many films during the 1950?s and 60?s ? including Dangerous Voyage, Safe Return and Operation Bullshine. TV work included The Sweenie and Compact.
On moving to Tavistock she became a firm friend of Ans Reed who ran a material shop in town.
?She came in and made a purchase. She gave me a cheque and that?s when I saw her name,? said Mrs Reed who lives in Mary Tavy.
?I said: ?You are a film star!? and she said: ?No, darling, I?m an actress.? We have been friends ever since.
?She was a lovely person who gave a bit of glamour to Tavistock.?
Ms Chance, who suffered failing sight herself, used to read pages for the talking newspaper for the blind.
