ONE of the world's most successful polar explorers, Pen Hadow, is visiting Mount House School on May 11 and inviting the children to learn the tricks of his trade.
Pen Hadow (pictured right) will be leading an action-packed, adventurous open morning, with activities specially designed by himself for current pupils, their friends and particularly any children and parents interested in finding out more about the school.
The children will be immersed in a real and exciting 'journey of discovery' involving hands-on, fun-filled activities in the school's sports fields, lakes, rivers, woods and farm.
Organised into small, professionally supervised groups, the participants will find themselves building emergency shelters, making fires without matches, cooking food over campfires, camouflaging themselves using mud and vegetation, using special techniques and equipment to track wildlife, searching for the fresh-laid farm chicken's eggs, as well as design, build and sail their own model boat which they can take home afterwards.
The event, which takes place from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, May 11, is free and open to children aged six to 13.
For parents interested in finding out more about Mount House Pre-prep, the pre-prep is running its own open morning simultaneously for two to six year olds with a separate programme supervised by head teacher Michele Pole.
