TAVISTOCK farmers? market is the best in Devon, according to readers of a county magazine. Readers of Devon Life voted last month and from their nominations three finalists were identified: Tavistock, Exmouth and Exeter. A team of judges visited each before choosing the winner. The town?s new title was announced at the Devon County Show where the publication hosted its own Food and Drink Awards. There to receive the trophy was delighted market manager Maria Jones and chairman Gill Gorbutt. Maria said: ?This is a wonderful achievement for the market, especially as we?ve only been running for four years. ?The market has been a great success and will continue to grow with the support of the local community. ?What we have achieved would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all those involved, the stall erectors, producers, customers and the town council ? a massive thankyou to you all.? The market, which trades in a range of local products, including ostrich and buffalo meat, pickles, chilli sauces, cheese and flowers, is held on the second and fourth Saturday of each month in Bedford Square.
