A LORRY laden with scrap vehicles overturned on the main road at Gulworthy last Thursday, blocking the road for around six hours. The accident happened at around 1pm on the A390, close to the Harvest Home public house. The lorry, weighing 44 tonnes, flipped onto its side and spilt scrap metal onto the carriageway, causing a large oil spillage. Police said the driver of the heavy goods vehicle suffered minor injuries in the accident. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1pm. Firefighters from Tavistock and Bere Alston also attended and made the vehicle safe. They also requested the attendance of the Highways Agency to deal with the spillage. The road was closed at Callington Road, Tavistock and Gulworthy Cross and diversions were put in place while a clear up operation and vehicle recovery took place. The road was eventually cleared of the wreckage by 11pm.
