THANKS to the Warm Up West Devon campaign, 540 householders have benefited from having loft, cavity and other insulation measures installed into their homes since April last year. Grants offered under the scheme, delivered through a partnership of West Devon Borough Council, the West Country Energy Acton Trust and others, can mean loft insulation for as little as £20 and cavity wall insulation from £23. In some cases, insulation measures can be free, depending on the applicant's circumstances. Cllr Mrs Margaret Garton, chairman of the borough council's future planning and housing committee, said: 'The borough council has pressed hard for government funding for energy efficiency measures to make our homes more sustainable, which will also contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions. 'We are delighted that this money can be used in partnership with other agencies to secure these benefits for the residents of West Devon.' The Warm Up West Devon scheme also includes other home safety benefits, such as free smoke alarms, free low energy light bulbs, door security measures and insulation advice.
