TO all those people who had a vote and did not use it in last week's election, please spare a thought for those of us who wanted to vote, and indeed tried to vote, but were not allowed to.

I registered to vote in April, after moving house and getting married. However because the election was called in May, my registration was too late (I thought April came before May but obviously not). When I contacted the council I was told it was tough luck but I would be registered for next time. What a shame that my extortionate Council Tax isn't dealt with in the same way. Eligible to live and pay tax but not to vote.

PS I received a letter of June 9 stating that I was now registered with effect from June 7, the date of the election. How strange!
