THE 30-year twinning relationship between West Devon and Wesseling in Germany has been marked with a 'virtual' ceremony.

West Devon Borough Council mayor Cllr William Cann, recorded a video message which will be sent to his civic counterparts in the German town, south of Cologne on the River Rhine.

Cllr Cann said: 'We wanted to mark the occasion but are very conscious of how we spend council tax-payers' money so a virtual ceremony was the obvious solution.

'It seems fitting that in the modern era our twinning link is continuing thanks to digital technology.'

Cllr Cann announced in the video message that the members' room at the borough council's Kilworthy Park offices in Tavistock is being named 'The Wesseling Room' to mark the anniversary.
