A WOMAN who was born one week after the outbreak of the First World War celebrated her 100th birthday last week with family and friends. Wynne Edwards was born on August 11, 1914, in Berkshire, Reading, as Wynne Alberta Robertson — resulting in the apt initials WAR! Wynne married Stanley Parker in 1936 and moved to Wembley Park in Middlesex, where she stayed for 30 years, before moving to Reading. Wynne and Stanley had two children Jackie, who lives in Tavistock, and Derek, who travelled for the party from Tasmania, Australia. When Wynne was in her early 90s she moved to Tavistock before she became a resident at Spring House Care Home in Peter Tavy. Wynne's daughter Jackie said her mother enjoyed the birthday celebration: 'It was nice to see her so happy. 'All the residents of the care home participated and shared in the afternoon tea and had a glass of champagne — it was such a nice party.' Wynne has nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, soon to be 17, and one great great grandchild.
