Tavistock Ladies' 1st XI 3
Bude 4
THIS was the first league match of the season and with a number of regular players missing Tavistock knew it was going to be tough.
Bude were making some strong attacks in the D and the first goal came as a result of being outnumbered.
Sarah Barratt and Chloe Bassett worked hard in midfield and with Emma White chasing every ball through the middle, Tavistock gained some strong possessional play. Becky Lamb worked well on the wing and linked nicely with Bassett and Julia Firth.
Jo Gaspar struck some strong balls into the D but Tavistock were quickly marked up and were prevented from taking possession. Laura Armstrong battled well and with Jenny Pollock in defence on the left Bude had to find new routes through.
The second goal for Bude came about through a strong strike which keeper Zoe Viggers could not stop. Claire Bruna came on and injected fresh legs.
The third goal for Bude arose due to the defence playing too high and flat and as a consequence not able to get back and help Dunn and Viggers.
A talk from captain Dunn allowed the team to realise they could play better but were allowing themselves to be too intimidated on the pitch.
Tavistock soon took possession of the ball and were strong in their tackles. Lamb picked up her game and worked well with Nikki Woodroffe who was able to hit strong balls into the D. Woodroffe scored the first goal for Tavistock from a hefty strike at goal. This lifted the spirits and soon Tavistock were again in possession. The second goal resulted from an excellent short corner and again it was Woodroffe who claimed it.
A quick break from Bude allowed them to score again.Tavistock were quick to respond and scored from Bruna who was on the post waiting for the deflected ball from the keeper.
This week Tavistock play at Kelly again at 11am against Bretforton.
