SO, some good news for Okehampton at last, with the proposal of a new Tesco store and the creation of 180 new jobs. It couldn't have come at a better time with so many jobs lost in the last 12 months.

I can't see how Tesco can have an effect on many smaller businesses of the town, when many residents already drive to Launceston, Tavistock or Crediton to do their weekly shopping.

I seem to remember, we had a good fish shop in the town until one of the leading supermarkets came into town and i don't recall the chamber of trade moaning then! Was this because of the financial 'softening package' Okehampton got for their coming?

So bring it on, Tesco, and let's see unemployed people of the Okehampton area back in employment.
