Tavistock A 5 OPMs 1 TAVISTOCK A hockey team played hosts to OPMs who are top of the league and had not lost or drawn a game since the start of the season. Tavistock always knew this would be a hard match and started the game the better of the two teams. To the visitors? surprise Tavistock took the lead with a well taken goal from Andrews. The home side would not let the visitors settle and soon were awarded a short corner. The ball was hit out from Barrat Jnr to Reed who powered it into the backboards of the opposition?s goal. OPM tried frantically to get back into the game but the defence of Tavistock thwarted any attack. With an unusual error from S Roberts OPMs were given a short corner and managed to pull a goal back shortly before half time. At the interval the captain, P Cooley, made some changes and did away with the sweeper system and played a stronger midfield. This would prove to be bold move. Tavistock now had more options of attack, and it was not long before Holland scored the third goal for the home side. OPMs had a few chances but never really threatened goalkeeper Osborne, as most of the game was played in the opposition?s half. With repeated attacks on the OPMs? goal from Tavistock?s mid field and forwards it was a just a matter of time before they scored more goals. Wood scored Tavistock?s fourth putting the game out of reach for the league leaders, with a few minutes remaining Mackintosh scored Tavistock?s fifth goal. This was a good win for Tavistock and the three points will keep them in the running for promotion next season.
