Bodmin A 2 Tavistock A 3 TAVISTOCK men?s seconds hockey team completed an undefeated league season on Saturday. An excellent year for this team was capped by an away victory over second placed Bodmin A. The Cornish side required a single point to be certain of joining Tavistock in the division above next season, and gave them their toughest test yet. An even first half saw Bodmin take the lead from a penalty corner, only for Phil Edwards to level the scores before the break. An excellent goal-line clearance by Gareth George prevented the home side from regaining the lead. A more dominant Tavistock went ahead through a Ricky Bellard strike early in the second half and looked in control before conceding a late equaliser from another Bodmin penalty corner. With their unbeaten record to defend, Tavistock kept the pressure on the home side?s defence and were rewarded with the winning goal in the final minute. A powerful shot from a penalty corner by Edwards beat both keeper and defence and sparked the end of season celebrations. Results in other games mean Bodmin remain second, on goal difference, and will be promoted with Tavistock. For the record, Tavistock A finished the season with the figures of Won 21 Drawn 1 Lost 0. With 115 goals scored and 18 conceded Tavistock win South Central District One by 19 points. Promotion to South West One means the A side will bridge the gap between their 1st and 3rd team divisions next season. This week Tavistock v Chudleigh away (1.30pm, Ivybridge).
