MEAVY Amateur Dramatics (MAD) are hitting the stage at Meavy Parish Hall next week, to perform their latest Pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. This year the script has been written by Sam Regan de Bere and Liz Tompkins.
Set in Meavy during the reign of King Charles II, local hero Jack tries to help his sister Jill and poor mother Audrey scratch a living by selling pies.
When King Charles visits the village to arrange the marriage of his beautiful daughter Princess Charlotte to the wealthy but inebriate Lord Burrator, there is great excitement among the colourful village inhabitants.
But things go badly wrong!
The Princess is abducted, the goose that lays the golden eggs is stolen, and the furious King levies a huge tax on the village.
How will they cope! Can Roger, the landlord of The Oak Inn, offer any useful ideas?
What are the nefarious new prime minister and his horrid little deputy up to? How do the secret desires of the local sheriff fit in with it all? And what will happen to Penelope, the cuddly panto cow?
Well, don't despair — assistance comes from a most unusual quarter . . .
A thigh slapping, chuckle mongering, Meavy tale of love, money, truth, freedom — and sheep.
The show starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday February 9 through to Saturday February 12.
To obtain tickets priced at £6 please telephone The Royal Oak on 01822 852944.
