WITH regards to the letter in the Times on May 29 from Dr Bannon, I agree with him, our political class is useless at the moment. I personally wouldn't buy a second hand car from any of them. The point is that it's all about power, some would sell their mothers to get a nice big car, chauffeur, expenses and power (look at Clegg). This also applies to Europe but is much worse in a way because the people at the top table making the rules are not elected by us peasants, cannot be dismissed and who are they anyway. This organisation is not the one we voted for (if it was I would be happy). Politicians think we are all stupid so they lie to us. I've voted twice in my life time in a referendum, the second time was to to abolish hanging for murder. We were told life would mean life if we voted yes. We can all see what a lie that was. At least with UKIP I know what I'm voting for and that's trading with Europe (they sell more to us than we sell to them); immigration, to continue but on a points system, so we only have who we need. Just like all the countries in the world other than those in Europe. As a patriot I have no-one to vote for other than UKIP. Our Prime Minister is either living in another world or he is lying to us about re-negotiating our terms. He stands as much chance as me being a millionaire. They will not take any notice of UKIP votes and ignore any demands we have. Once they have the power they will not let it go. Your two alternatives Dr Bannon are not helpful, the greens are the Liberal party with Wellington boots on, and to have a spoiled vote would be a cop-out and very cowardly. D P Hunter Tavistock IN answer to Dr Colin Bannon's letter in the Times on May 29 I would like to say yes, you are just one of a few left that find the rise of UKIP disturbing. Call it what you like, a protest vote or whatever, it proved that the people of this country are fed up with MPs who haven't got the guts to stand up for those people who put them into power in the first place. Let's face it, how many politicians do you know who actually ever answer a question that's put to them? I, like many millions of people in this country, feel that MPs are only out to look after number one and do not give a toss for the ordinary working man. As for Nigel Farage, he has probably got this faults, like the rest of them, but he's the only one who speaks his mind regardless of whether we like it or not. You could say he's a bit like Marmite, you either love him or hate him! But at least he's honest. David Luckhurst Okehampton OH DEAR, oh dear, Dr Bannon seems to be very cross with UKIP! Of course he may well be correct about the chances of them having any MPs but we will have to wait until next May to find out. Dr Bannon appears to forget that these elections were for the European Parliament, not ours. However, his letter appears to go much deeper. It is almost as if he is using their success in the EU elections to have a rather left wing rant against the present Government. Among other complaints Dr Bannon talks about centralisation of power, this is exactly what the EU is doing to our country, with their ultimate aim to absorb it into a federal United States of Europe. I am not a member of UKIP, but their sucess was mainly due to the public both here and right accross Europe being totally fed up with the EU and its constant interference in what should be their internal affairs. As for climate change it is hardly surprising that many people are sceptical about it, one the one hand we have a bunch of 'experts' telling us the world is about to end if we don't cull all our flatulent cattle and on the other we have another bunch of 'experts' saying that there is little or no change, so how are we, the poor bemused public to know which is right? Whatever the answer may be I doubt if it is voting for the Greens, unless of course one wants the countryside to be covered in wind farms and to find it bereft of any animals because we have to live on cabbages and lettuce and other 'green' stuff!
