MEMBERS of the Past Tablers of Great Britain and Ireland 41 Club recently stayed overnight in Okehampton during a charity cycle ride.
Club president Barry Durman and his support team were hosted by Okehampton resident Ray Piper, as the team stopped off to rest during the strenuous cycle ride from John O’Groats in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall.
Members of the 41 Club took part in the charity cycle challenge known as JOGLE, in order to raise money for homeless charity, Shelter.
Breakfast for the cyclists was provided by John Elson at the Okehampton Outdoor Adventure Centre YHA, before the team began the next stage of its cycle ride to Bodmin.
The team left John O’Groats on Saturday, July 16 and completed the challenge on Saturday, July 20.
Unfortunately, Mr Durman was seriously injured on the way to Bodmin on day 14 of the cycle and had to be taken to Derriford Hospital. His place in the team was filled by a rider from Stratford-upon-Avon who completed the course alongside Colin Bowater.
The team completed its long cycle ride in glorious sunshine and were greeted by family and friends at the finish line in Land’s End.
