FOUR men persistently pedalled for almost 900 miles to cycle the length of Britain in 13 days.

Nick Murray and James Frappell from Yelverton, were joined by their two friends from Exeter, Mike Keough and Tony Rees, in a charity cycle ride from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise money for ShelterBox and St Luke's Hospice.

Despite some setbacks along the way Nick, James, Mike and Tony managed to complete the challenge unsupported.

Nick said: 'On the way we had one car and bike crash, two chains snapped, a buckled wheel and multiple punctures — but we still enjoyed the adventure.

'We stayed mostly in tents but occasionally in B&Bs or friends' houses.

'One night we accidentally pitched our tents in a horses' paddock. It was very dark and we were woken up at about 2am by some curious horses hoofing on the tent and nibbling the tent lining. They ushered us out of the field and we ended up camping on the side of the A6 and M6.'

Nick said they had a great journey and managed to raise £1,500 for the two charities.
