Treyone Kitchens of Tavistock have won a highly contested window display award.

The competition, organised by Tavistock BID, called on local businesses to creatively dress their windows in red white and blue in honour of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Robert Clarke, of Treyone Kitchens, said: 'We decided to dress our window as if someone was working in a red white and blue kitchen. So we had red tomatoes, white mushrooms and blue salt containers, to name just a few things.'

Judging the windows were BID director Sandra Dineley-Jones and Chris Hair.

Mrs Dineley-Jones said: 'The reason we went with Treyone's window was that it was so subtle and so clever. It wasn't obvious as you walked past, or "in your face", but when you knew that it was part of the competition you started noticing all these clever little ideas, like the blue handwash, or the red peppers.

'I have to say the whole town saw many businesses go to so much trouble to decorate their windows, and they all need to be congratulated for their effort and the quality of their displays.'

Mr Clarke added: 'We were delighted to have won, we put a lot of effort into it, although my wife deserves most of the credit for the idea!'
