OKEHAMPTON Hamlets new parish hall at Meldon was officially opened on Saturday and kicked off a week of celebrations in the village.
The hall replaces the former dilapidated building, which had fallen below health and safety standards, and was built with a lottery grant in excess of £200,000.
Deisgned by Tavistock-based architect Steve Whettem, the new facility, which includes a kitchen and disabled toilets, was constructed by contractors Bryant and Chandlers.
The official opening was followed by a viewing of the hall, an exhibition and refreshments — and a big party.
In the days that followed, numerous events were held as part of a gala week.
