WITH a number of teams on the same points in the league, it is vital Okehampton ladies' hockey team do not lose in the last two games of the season to make sure they stay in the division.
With Weymouth just above them, this was a reasonable result for both teams.
Okehampton started well. Beth Stevens creating space with runs down the right wing.
Sue Stanbury was quick to intercept a number of Weymouth hit-outs and the Weymouth defence was under pressure.
They were forced into conceding a penalty corner and Sue Stanbury's strike was deflected off a Weymouth stick to Viv Weatherington who flicked the ball past the keeper into the corner of the goal.
Weymouth stepped up their game in the second half and Okehampton were pushed back into defending. Jane Jones and Netty Collett worked tirelessly to keep the Weymouth attack at bay and Paula Gibbs made a number of good saves.
However Weymouth broke the resilient Okehampton defence to equalise.
Okehampton never created the chances of the first half although they worked hard and passed well.
Weymouth stole the game when they were awarded a penalty, Fortunately, the penalty taker hooked the ball wide and the game ended in a deserved draw.
This week, Okehampton play Exmouth in the final league game of the season.
