A UNIQUE piece of Shebbear's history will be going under the hammer this month after the post office lost its battle to remain open.
Former owners of the post office and who run the village shop Keith and Anne Horwell have donated the sign as a tribute to a much loved mark of the village.
Barry Hunt from the village hall committee said: 'They felt it would be ideal to auction for the village hall fund as we need a new kitchen and extension at a cost of £30,000.'
A total of £2,000 has been raised towards the village hall restoration project and anyone who would like to bid for the post office sign, or take part in the wine and wisdom quiz also happening on the night can phone Barry on 01409 281233.
The auction will be held on Saturday February 28 from 7pm in Shebbear village hall. Tables of six for the wine and wisdom cost £24.
