Juventus League Cup first round

Okehampton Argyle 0

Countess Wear Dynamoes 6

FIVE goals down after 40 minutes and a sixth behind soon after the break meant Okehampton were faced with a mountain to climb.

They were game enough to stick to the task but only troubled Dynamoes defence on the odd occasion. The best chances fell to Phill Evans but he was twice denied two first half goals by a couple of superb blocks.

Argyle's faults lay in their defence failing to clear their lines strongly and the midfield had too much to do as they tried to play five at the back. Reverting to a flat back four, for the second half, enabled Okehampton to press forward a little more though their defence had to take more responsibility. This they did and, although they lived dangerously at times, their play was more coherent.

Adam Griffiths played his best game this season and was to share the man of the match vote with his keeper, Alex Mortimore. The latter superbly saved Dynamoes goalie's penalty leaving the lad red-faced!

If Argyle could field a settled team each week, they would be sure to give a better account of themselves.

This week at home to Pinhoe, players to meet at the changing rooms at 9:45am.
