Devon Women's League

Paignton Town 2

Okehampton Argyle 8

THIS was Argyle's second win of the season and they had to work hard for it despite the scoreline.

Sarah Sillafant was on target seven times with Lynda Cann the other goalscorer.

Okehampton were swift to take control and with some fine passing were soon on the attack. They took the lead after five minutes when a fine through-ball found Sarah Sillafant and her shot was too hot for the keeper.

The second came soon after, again Sarah latched onto a pass and beat the keeper with ease. She scored her hat-trick after 12 minutes - fine interplay between Samantha and Jessica Burdus saw Sara Rew with the final ball just asking to be score.

The fourth came from the boot of Lynda Cann. Lynda does not score that many during the season but when she does they are always memorable. This was a shot from 20 yards, following good work down the right wing by Michelle Burdus and Michelle Vaughan. The ball was fed into Lynda who made space for herself and shot from a tight angle.

Paignton started to ask questions of Argyle's defence and those were soon answered by the back four. Michelle Burdus, Kate Shannon, Ceri Chapman and Samantha Burdus were solid and made all the tackles count. They did get caught out when Paignton's striker latched onto a through-ball and slipped it under Gina Burdus.

Sarah hit back twice more before half-time. The first went in off the post, and the second was another shot the keeper failed to see.

Paignton scored just before half time to make it 6-2.

In the second half Paignton swapped keepers and this slowed the scoring. But Argyle's defence held out and Paignton were forced to shoot from long range, which did not bother Gina who had a fine game in goal.

From an indirect free kick the shot was cannoned into the wall and Jessica caught the ball but Paignton failed to beat Gina from the spot. Soon after it was the turn of her other daughter, Michelle, to handle the ball. Again, Gina saved the penalty.

Argyle finally beat the new keeper when Sarah scored after linking well with Sara Rew and Allana Partridge. The final goal came after eight passes when Sarah scored her seventh by going around the keeper and keeping her feet despite having her ankles tapped.

This week away to Totnes Town, kick-off, 3pm. Players to meet at the car park at 12.30pm.
