THE organisers of the Tidy Tavi group has expressed their thanks to all the volunteers who turned out in torrential rain and strong winds for Saturday morning’s litter picking session.

The helpers included two from the new Tesco store. The store’s management has provided much support for Tidy Tavi since opening in Tavistock as part of the company’s community liaison programme.

Despite the rain, which thankfully has been a rare feature of Tidy Tavi’s litter-picking efforts in the past four years, most areas of the town were visited and a large amount of rubbish was collected.

In several places plastic bags and other items that were blocking drains and causing localised flooding were removed.

Conditions improved somewhat during the morning, but many volunteers did receive a good soaking from the heavens.

The group would also like to express their gratitude to all the drivers who slowed down and took evasive action to avoid this, as well as to those who routinely slow down to allow Tidy Tavi volunteers to cross busy roads during their monthly litter-picking forays.

Tidy Tavi’s next litter pick will be on Saturday, December 5.

If you would like to help out, please meet at Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 10am with gloves and sturdy footwear. The group is hopeful the weather will be kinder on this day.
