I WAS a passenger on a Western Greyhound double deck bus that had a head on collision with a pick up truck at around midday on Monday December 5.

I was catapulted out of my seat and smashed my hip and am in RD&E Wonsford, having had to have a complete hip replacement operation.

I would like to thank the young students travelling to Exeter for picking me up off the floor. I was thrown about three to four feet from my seat (buses do not have seat belts).

A big thank you to the Okehampton firemen who arrived very quickly, strapped me onto a board and manhandled me through the rear emergency exit. It was heartening to see the familiar face of Rick of Telecare in the crew.

Devon Ambulance service took me to straight to Wonsford and again I received very speedy treatment. X-rays confirmed my hip had been so badly damaged it needed a complete hip replacement.

A great team effort by the Okehampton firemen, ambulance and police. Having in my 70 plus years not broken a bone this was a complete shock.

Yours faithfully and thankfully.

I WOULD like to thank the gentleman who assisted my wife on December 13, when she fell while at the co-operative store in the town.

His kindness in calling an ambulance and staying with her until it arrived is very much appreciated.

Regrettably he left without leaving his name but without his care and kindness I'm sure my wife's injuries would have been more severe.

Once more, my sincere thanks to him.
