MORE than 130 young people from the ages of 5 to 16 enjoyed a free day of family fun at Okehampton Primary School on Saturday. A multitude of activities included making music, family multi-sports, storytelling, morris dancing, circus skills, orienteering and an inflatable assault course. The day was organised by Okehampton FLAG (Family Learning Action Group) and received funding from the Okehampton and District Lions and the EX20 Lottery. Headteacher of Okehampton Primary School and a member of FLAG Brian Cunningham said it was a ?brilliant? day. ?There were over 40 families involved,? he said. ?We gave each of them an evaluation form to get some feedback and the comments were fantastic. ?The parents seem to really appreciate having a range of activities that they could do with their children.? Experts ran workshops in everything from tight-rope walking to mask-making and even the really young children were provided for with an on-site creche facility. ?We had grandparents taking part in the morris dancing and parents having great fun with their kids. People said it was a very relaxed friendly day and we were very encouraged. It has given us a real buzz.? This is the second family fun day at the school and it is certain not to be the last. Mr Cunningham said it was requested that the day be held several times a year but that would all depend on funding. ?It costs several thousands of pounds to put on a day like this and we are grateful to the organisations who have contributed to make all the activities free,? he added.
