OKEHAMPTON will again celebrate the life of a young sportsman and raise thousands of pounds for charity in the process when it holds the Neal Cousins Memorial Day in Simmons Park on August 24.

As in the previous five years, the highlight of the day will be Okehampton football and rugby teams locking horns, with the football club hosting their rivals at ?The Beautiful Game?.

The event has raised a massive £25,000 since it began in memory of Okehampton resident Neal, who excelled in sport but tragically died from leukaemia in his early twenties.

The August Bank Holiday fun day has become a firm favourite and draws hundreds of spectators each year.

In a change from the usual programme there will be no auction this year but a junior version of the big match and plenty of sideshows and entertainment, including a bouncy castle and face painting.

During the evening the marquee will be rocking to the sounds of local bands and a disco giving a real ?Party in the Park? atmosphere.

Organisers are hoping as many people as possible turn up to the games and dance the night away in a bid to raise cash for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

Any donations to help the day go with a bang will be gratefully received, whether monetary or in the form of draw prizes.

Anyone who feels they can help in any way should contact Andy Luxton on 07816 815443 or Steve Harris on 07764 409490.
