IT was a golden moment for air cadet Sarah Lucas when she received her Duke of Edinburgh award at a ceremony in Exeter.
To win her gold award, Sarah carried out canoeing, climbing and fell walking in the Lake District as part of a group of young adults.
As a senior NCO in Tavistock's 2312 Squadron, she has assisted on many community ventures over a period of a year and continues to do so.
For the skill section Sarah had experiences in marksmanship and achieved a solo flight in one of the RAF's gliders.
For the sport section she achieved success in tennis training and match play, and for the expedition section her training took place on Dartmoor and as expedition undertaken in the Picos Mountains in Spain.
The award ceremony took place at County Hall where awards were presented by Lady Clifford of Chudleigh, High Sheriff of Devon.
Sarah said: 'The experiences I gained undertaking the award through the Air Cadets will remain with me always.' She now looks forward to assisting future cadets achieving the aspirations in the DofE scheme.
2312 Squadron Air Cadets meet on Tuesdays at Crelake Cadet Centre and is open to all over 13 years of age. Contact 01822 612927.
