AN event at Lydford Forest to mark National Insect Week hopes to create a buzz of excitement. ?A Forest Full of Bugs? aims to inspire and encourage a greater awareness of the importance of insects. Ten local schools and community groups from the Dartmoor and Tamar Valley areas will take part in a variety of activities from Monday June 19 to Friday June 23, including pond dipping, moth identification, great umbrella hunts and minibeast hunts. On Saturday June 24 there will be a free open day from 10am to 4pm, when the general public can take part in walks to the butterfly reserve, go on a self-guided nature trail, make a bug T-shirt, sculpt a dragonfly, pond dip, trap moths and see the work produced during the week. Schools taking part are Chelfham, Okehampton Primary, Princetown, Gulworthy and Lydford, with playgroups from Princetown, Gulworthy and Milton Abbot, and the Molly Owen Centre and Venville Elderly Residents? Care Home, Princetown.
