BUCKLAND Monachorum Drama Group is putting together a production of a different kind — an archive of events and activities that have been held over the years.

Members are looking for pictures or any other memorabilia to add to the archive. Group member Linda Anderson said they thought it would be nice to have a record of the group, which started in 1957.

She said: 'It grew out of the WI, with a few of the members and their husbands getting together.

'We would like any old photos or programmes people might have in their attics, and we can copy and return them if they don't want to part with them permanently.'

The drama group currently has around 50 members, but is looking for volunteers interested in set design and construction, or who would like to help backstage during productions. Their next play will be at the beginning of May.

Linda also said they had recently moved their props and costumes into a new store room provided by the newly-extended Buckland Monachorum Village Hall.

'Up until then they were scattered around Buckland and the surrounding villages — in the attics, cellars and garages of members,' she said.

The thespians had had a tidy-up and discovered they had an extensive collection of costumes for almost every occasion.

They are now offering the costumes for hire for fancy dress parties or other events for a small fee.

Those borrowing costumes will be asked to clean them before returning.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, contact Sheila Phillips on 01752 775195.

Anyone interested in the group — whose members also come from neighbouring villages, Plymouth and Tavistock — is invited to the annual meeting being held at Milton Combe Village Hall on Monday, February 11 at 7.30pm.
