AN Okehampton couple who married on Easter Sunday 60 years ago, celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow (Friday).
Charles and Pat Guest have lived in the Okehampton area for most of their lives. Mr Guest was born at Sourton Cross and served in the Army during the war. Mrs Guest came from London and worked in the civil service during the war.
The couple married in Lewisham, and moved back to Okehampton in 1946 after Mr Guest left the armed forces.
Mr Guest said despite rations being in operation it was still possible to have a ?little bit of a celebration? after the wedding ceremony.
He remembers wartime days in London well. ?Hardly a night went by without there being some sort of raid,? he said.
Mr Guest worked in his father?s garage at Sourton Cross before taking on the business and continuing to run it until his retirement in 1985.
Mr and Mrs Guest have one son, Clive, and two grandchildren, who will be joining the happy couple for a celebration meal.
