WE would like to thank Sam Hughes for her excellent article regarding the recent Redrow Outline Planning Application for up to 120 houses on the attractive remaining valley off Anderton Lane, Whitchurch. We have already received many messages from residents who are very concerned about this unwanted and unnecessary development, bearing in mind 750 new houses are due to be built off Callington Road in the near future. The main issue is that the land is outside the settlement boundary, is a greenfield site and is not designated for development under the current local development plan. A large area of the meadow is categorised as a Zone 3 (highest risk) Flood Zone. This marshy area is an irreplaceable natural habitat which, together with the many mature trees, supports a rich wildlife and is of immense landscape value. The access roads, Anderton Lane and Whitchurch Road, are already congested and highly unsuitable to take 220+ more cars negotiating the already difficult and hazardous junctions at the Post Office and Buzzard Road exiting onto the Plymouth Road. If you are as concerned as we are about this proposal it is important that you send your objections to West Devon Borough Council by email to: [email protected]">[email protected] or by letter to the WDBC Planning Department, Kilworthy Park, Tavistock, PL19 0BZ and ensure that you quote reference no 00756/2014. Please note that objections should be in by July 31, not July 24 as previously stated. If you want more details of the application please follow the planning search on the borough council's website. If you would like to join our rapidly growing contact group please do email your details to [email protected]">[email protected] We are not a protest group but aim to keep residents informed about this and other planning matters.
