CHILDREN from Bere Alston's Tiddly Winks toddler group and the Bere Valley Playgroup enjoyed being able to touch the animals at a visit to Exmoor Zoo. The toddler group invited their friends from the playgroup to join them for the visit in March and a total of 46 children and 30 adults took part. As well as the close encounters with the animals, they bought various cuddly animals and learned about them. They were particularly fascinated to hear about 'hero' rats, the largest in the world, that are trained to hunt out and detect land mines in war-torn countries. Tiddly Winks, formerly the Bere Alston toddler group, runs on a Monday morning from 10am to noon. Further information is available from Julie Marks on 01822 840349.
