CONKER enthusiasts will be going nuts next Friday (October 10) when West Devon's very own World Conker Championships gets into full swing.
The Grenofen World Conker Championships are being staged at the Halfway House Inn and are open to everyone, young or old, who enjoys playing a classic game of conkers.
Clive Pattison, owner of the Halfway House, said: 'When I was in the Lions Club my aim was always to put the fun into fundraising. The monies raised will go towards the Chestnut Appeal for prostate cancer, which is a local charity, striving to provide much needed support to men and their families across Devon and Cornwall.
'The evening is open to anyone so that everyone can have some fun and raise money for charity. The idea is to have some fun on the night.'
Lesley-Ann Simpson, charity manager, said: 'I think this is a fantastic idea and a fantastic and fun way of raising money.
'We are currently trying to purchase a new piece of equipment called the "Trus" Machine which helps detect the early signs of prostate cancer, but it costs £30,000 — so this type of event is right up our street.'
The championships will be abiding by official world rules and the official safety standards, and will be controlled so no cheating can take place.
The conkers will be available from the Halfway House at £1 each.
There will also be trophies for the men and women winners, and for children under 15.
