TAVISTOCK'S Bookstop took part in the Million Books launch on Saturday in World Book Week, where free copies of one of 25 specially selected titles were given out.

One million books were given away by an army of passionate readers to members of the public across the UK and West Devon charity Tamwed, which supports projects with extremely poor communities in South India, received copies of Rohinton Mistry's A Fine Balance.

The book tells the story of four characters from very different sectors of the Indian Caste system during the turmoil in the country during the 1970s.

Members of Tamwed gave books to customers of Bookstop who were asked to make a small donation to help an isolated community in South India to cope with the drastic effects of climate change.
