IS the Lidl site not privately owned land, with the owner having the right to trim hedges, spray or remove vegetation the same as any other landowner?

If there are so many environmentally concerned people around why don't they buy up farmland, remove all evidence of mankind like hedgerows and plant it with indigenous trees and flowers?

There is always farmland somewhere for sale and if everyone in England donated just £1 a year that would raise £49-million to buy 9,915 hectares a year to plant. There are grants to help with tree planting.

This would be better use of money to celebrate the year 2000 than a Dome.

It is good to see how Okehampton has smartened up, with Waitrose and now Peacocks coming here. Now we just need the council to purchase the eyesore that is the land beside Mill Road, and that ugly chimney with the weeds going out of it. Flatten the lot and make a coach park linking it to the existing car park.
