DARTMOOR Search and Rescue Tavistock was called to assist in helping a 90-year-old walker off the moor last week.

The team was called by police at 1.14pm on January 17 asking the team to assist the elderly male walker, who was stranded on the open moor between Bellever Tor and Laughter Tor. He had been part of a large group of walkers but had become exhausted and unable to continue.

The team located him by a wall near the forest margin and following assessment and provision of a hot drink, he was transported by 4x4 back to the team’s meeting place at Dunnabridge.

The police then drove him and his companion back to their transport near Postbridge.
