• A burglary took place at a property in Modyford Walk, Buckland Monachorum, sometime between 4.15am and 11am on Sunday, February 12.
Entry was gained via a rear door. A black Toshiba laptop was stolen from the kitchen. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number CR/10821/17.
• A white table has been taken from the garden of a house on the Peryn Road area of Tavistock.
The theft took place between February 4 and 18. While the table is not exceptionally valuable, this may be an indicator of a thief working in the local area, so if you have had items taken from your garden, get in touch with police. Police said we are now entering the time of year when they traditionally see a spike in thefts from sheds, garages and outbuildings. This is almost a seasonal event and traditionally the first spate of thefts takes place in the Yelverton area. Now is the time to check the security of your outbuildings. CR/12183/17.
• Following a theft of kerosene in Liftondown, police are warning local people to keep their eyes peeled for suspicious activity and to double check the security of their oil tanks. A hedge was damaged to gain access to the tank and the top of the tank was also damaged by the thieves in the process of taking the fuel. Thefts like this require a little time to carry out — in this case more than usual as it was necessary to force a way through a hedge. Police said professionals often use a small generator to power a pump in order to empty the tank quickly. If you have any ideas of who is responsible, contact police. CR/10790/17.
• Police are investigating a series of incidents in the Dolvin Road area of Tavistock.
Most recently paint was thrown at the door of a property on the road. This happened on Wednesday, February 15 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, at the point where it was getting dark or had just become dark.
Police said while it was unlikely the offender would have thrown the paint while other people were around, he or she may have been seen walking to or from the address with a can or container of paint of some sort. Officers are now checking local houses that have CCTV systems fitted to see if they can identify such a person. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Carpenter at Tavistock Police Station. CR/11357/17.
