A FRACAS where a man was bitten on the face, a slashed tyre in Bishopsmead and a burgled car on Sheepstor all feature in this week’s police desk.

• DETECTIVES at Tavistock are appealing for passers-by to come forward following a nasty incident on Plymouth Road.

On Monday, February 6 at around 8.30pm a man was driving his car along Plymouth Road when he was confronted by two young men, at least one of whom stepped in front of his car, causing him to stop. When the driver stepped out of his car he became involved in a fracas with the two men.

During the altercation he was bitten severely on his face. Another driver who stopped had their phone knocked out of their hand when they tried to film what was going on.

Police have said this was not only a very unpleasant incident, it would have been very visible and a number of people must have seen it happen. If you saw any or all of what happened, contact the investigating officer, D Thielmann, at Tavistock Police Station on 101, quoting crime reference number CR/9060/17 as a matter of urgency. The matter had been recorded as GBH with intent.

• A car had a tyre slashed while it was parked in Alder Road, Bishopsmead, on Friday, February 10.

Aside from the prospect of there being a criminal living on the estate, police are concerned that someone is walking around with an item sharp enough to slash a tyre on their person. Police believe the damage was probably done in daylight as the car was in order at 7am but then the damage was found at 3pm the same day. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 before any further crimes take place. CR/9960/17.

• Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team will be making a regular appearance at the Rest a While café for over 55s in Tavistock. Starting last week, officers are planning to call in on Fridays at around 11am to the rest room in the pannier market surround.

Since financial constraints forced the closure of most police enquiry offices run by the force, officers locally have been seeking out opportunities to meet the public other than simply through foot patrol.

PCSO Kevin Williams and PC Cathy Veale both visited last Friday and managed to discuss a number of issues with a variety of people. While there is always the possibility they may be called to deal with an incident, they will be making every effort to be there.

• A car was left for an hour on the afternoon of Sunday, February 12 in a car park at Sheepstor. Upon returning to the car, the owners found a mobile phone and a bag containing bank cards had been stolen. A window had been smashed in order to enter the car. CR/10291/17.

•On Monday, February 13, February a large quantity of heating oil was stolen from a property in the Liftondown area during the day time.

Anyone with any information, please contact the police on 101 and quote CR/010790/17.
