POLICE are reminding businesses which have a safe on their property to ensure that safety measures are in place.
Inspector Meredith, from Devon and Cornwall Police, last week revealed a number of burglaries had taken place at business premises where safes had been specifically targeted in the Bodmin, Newquay and St Austell areas. She said these incidents were under investigation but early indications suggested that a degree of planning was involved in these incidents.
No burglaries of this type had yet taken place in the Launceston sector, which includes Callington, but police are keen to remind all businesses with safes to have appropriate security measure in place. Ensure the safe is kept locked with access restricted to the minimum number of staff; ensure any keys or combination to the safe are stored separately from the safe and that the safe itself is secured either to the floor or a solid wall.
If you see suspicious activity around business premises, call 101 or 999 if you suspect a crime is in progress.
