POLICE in Okehampton are appealing for any witnesses to a graffiti artist scaling the roof of the Co-operative supermarket in Okehampton overnight last Friday night.

The perpetrator apparently took a considerable risk to climb onto the roof of the store and daub a number of tags on the wall.

The incident happened between 11pm on Friday, June 22 and 4.30am on Saturday, June 23.

PCSO Lisa Smith said: ‘Police are quite concerned that whoever is responsible has gone to such lengths, risking their own safety, to commit the crime. The crime reference is CR/055394/18.’

She added that there had been a spate of graffiti in the town recently.

‘It would be much appreciated if members of the public assist the local police by keeping an eye out for people carrying spray paint or acting suspiciously, as the crimes only take seconds to commit and therefore it is difficult to catch offenders in the act. If anyone calls 101 or 999 to report anything, they can remain anonymous if they wish to do so.’
