A MAN from Drakewalls has been fined £150 for racially abusing a bar manager during a pool tournament.

Simon Gibson, 31, was found guilty of a racially aggravated public order offence and was told he had to pay a £150 fine and a £20 victim surcharge.

He was also ordered to pay £2,500 towards prosecution costs after he elected to contest his case at Plymouth Crown Court.

Vasille Georgiou, then bar manager of the Devon Tors Inn in Yelverton, had earlier told the court that Mr Gibson had called him a ’n*******’ and a ’p***’ when the row broke out after Mr Gibson lost a game of pool.

The court heard that the Devon Tors Inn was hosting a pool tournament that night and manager Mr Georgiou, who is of Greek-Cypriot descent, was behind the bar and Mr Gibson was on one of the visiting pool teams.

The two men clashed after Mr Gibson complained about losing a match, which led Mr Georgiou to escort him from the premises — only for him to come back in.

Mr Georgiou had previously admitted to assaulting Mr Gibson by hitting him with a pool cue after he was racially abused.

Mr Gibson was fined £150, which was the same fine imposed on Mr Georgiou when he was found guilty of assault by beating in January 2016.
