FIRE services were called to reports of a combine harvester on fire in North Tawton.

Fire appliances from North Tawton and Okehampton were mobilised to the incident at Langmead Farm at around 1pm yesterday (July 24).

On arrival crews found a combine harvester on fire within a field of corn. 

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: ’The cause of the fire was accidental. 

’The engine compartment and conveyor belt of the combine harvester have been severely damaged by fire and the remainder of the vehicle was damaged by heat and smoke. 

’The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and small tools.’
