AN 81-YEAR-OLD motorist from Bere Ferrers has died as the result of a road accident. Roger Harrisson was the driver of a cream Citroen BX which was in collision with a Blue Mitshubishi saloon at the Dartmoor Chef café on the A386 on Roborough Down on Thursday, March 24. He was taken to hospital with what were thought to be minor injuries, having suffered broken ribs, but died on Saturday, April 2. The accident took place at approximately 1.45pm and police, fire and ambulance crews attended. The driver of the Mitsubishi, who was from Yelverton, was uninjured, but his 45-year-old wife, who was travelling with him, was taken to hospital with whiplash injuries. Three silver cars, a Peugeot 307, a Mercedes Smart car and a Rover 214, were involved in a shunt while travelling towards Plymouth. The accident was attended by four fire appliances, four ambulances and the police, making the road impassable for and hour and a half. There was severe traffic congestion as a result. The driver of the Smart car, an 81-year-old woman from Tavistock, and the two occupants of the Rover, who were from Lamerton, were taken to hospital, but suffered only minor injuries. The 27-year-old driver of the Peugeot, who was from Plymouth, was uninjured.
